An old farmhouse that has been lovingly restored, this off-the-grid cortijo of 206 m2 is laid out on 2 floors and enjoys breathtaking views over the rolling fields all the way to the mountain ranges of the Sierra Alhama, Almijara and Tejeda. A large covered terrace of 75 m2 provides shade while the pool area and extensive uncovered terracing are perfect for sunbathing or enjoying the views.
The house, set on 28.900 m2 of land, is in excellent condition and has been well-maintained while keeping traditional elements. It allows for peaceful living away from the city and could make for an excellent rural tourism opportunity as a retreat centre or B&B. The house was in fact designed as a small boutique hotel and retreat centre so it’s comfortable and stylish. It has six bedrooms and four bathrooms, one bedroom and bathroom being in a separate annex with its own entrance to the left of the main house while the other five bedrooms are in the main house.
Via the front door you walk in to what is currently a dining room with an open fireplace. To the left of the front door are stairs to the upper floor. From the dining room there is a small hallway on the left with the two ground floor bedrooms and a family bathroom. The windows keep their original size on this floor to keep the summer heat out and the heat from a winter’s fire in. Leading on from the dining room is the kitchen, which has been designed so that it occupies two rooms. The first is used as a food prep room with worktops and sinks and through to the next room is the pantry space and cooking area. These separate areas make catering for large groups much easier than having one kitchen.
Going up the stairs to the upper floor, there is a small landing with one bedroom off to the left, another bedroom off to the right and straight ahead on to the large sitting room with wood burning stove. From the sitting room you have access to another bedroom and at the other end of the sitting room is a door to a short hall with a bathroom off of it and another door that leads to the biggest bedroom with its own bathroom with bath. One of these bedrooms has a non-supporting wall between it and the sitting room so that wall could be removed to make a much bigger sitting room. There is a lovely terrace off the sitting room with views to the Sierra Maroma and a stair case that leads down to the courtyard.
A large garage and store room has plenty of space for extra sun beds, bedding, seats, etc. It also houses a powerful generator and the batteries for the solar power system. This is an off-grid house so you generate you own electricity, water is from a well and the sewerage is via a septic tank.
Next to the garage is a covered, purpose-built yoga platform which could be changed into additional bedroom space if desired.
There is plenty of parking at the cortijo if guests all need to bring their own cars. On the land are almond trees, some olive trees, a cherry tree, walnut tree, lots of naturally growing mountain herbs such as rosemary, thyme, lavender, rocket, etc. and there is lots of room for your own veggie patch, chickens or goats. There is also a mobile phone signal booster and wifi.
The access is via an unpaved road. The house is three kilometers from a paved road.
