Cueva Roja in Fuentenueva (ORCE)

Cueva Roja is a charming, rustic cave house with a huge front patio and expansive views of the Sierra Maria-Los Velez mountains. The cave has a living room, 2 bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom and pantry. This cave property is the last house on a small country road so there is very little passage. The location is stunning, surrounded by wide open space in nature.

The patio is about 1650m2 and can accommodate an above-ground pool. There is a newly built carport with a shed/workshop and additional room for parking. The patio is gravelled with newly planted white mulberry trees along the outer edge. A section has been concreted for the possibility of a pool. A wooden platform has been installed to prepare for a sitting area. (A pergola could be built over this platform.) There are two partial cave rooms along the back patio wall that can be used for wood storage, outdoor furniture, garden tools, etc, or as a workshop.

You enter the cave through a massive wooden door into a vestibule with wooden French doors that open to a central salon with a small wood burner and front window. To the right is a doorway to a double bedroom with a window with mountain views. Straight ahead from the salon is a second double bedroom. And to the left of the salon, a door leads to the kitchen and then to the bathroom and pantry. The kitchen is simple and spacious with a double sink and a window looking out to the patio. Fridge and oven are not provided. The washing machine is included. The bathroom is beautifully tiled with a white and blue classic motif.

The house is pure cave and is set back into the mountain so it has all the qualities of cool temperatures in summer and easy to warm in winter. The cave is east facing. All of the rooms have a window except the smaller bedroom. The floors are tiled throughout with quality terracotta tiles. The house was recently painted inside and out.

Cueva Roja is situated on a hillside of Fuente Nueva, a hamlet of the village of Orce. It is located on the Altiplano de Granada and offers beautiful views of the Sierra de Maria mountain range. Fuente Nueva is a quiet place that has a feeling of peace and privacy. The hamlet feels remote yet restaurants, bars and shops are only a 7 minute drive to the charming village of Orce. Orce has a popular natural spring water swimming pool. Orce is known for its summer festivals, concerts and medieval festival. Orce and Fuente Nueva are also known for their archaeological finds, dating back to the first humans who arrived in Europe and the discovery of a large mammoth. The region offers great hiking, mountain biking, and thermal spas. There are turquoise lakes within 45-60 minutes.
