Villaricos is an historic fishing village with a varied and colourful history on the coast of the municipality of Cuevas del Almanzora. The tiny village boasts a harbour and a marina, an assortment of cosy tapas bars, shops and restaurants and hosts a fabulous Sunday market where you can purchase a huge variety of home grown produce, fashion and household goods.
Going south form Villaricos is Vera Playa with its golden sands and Aqua Park. The town of Vera is approximately 10 km from the coast with the superb beaches at its' eastern limit. Market days here are on Saturdays and is arguably one of the best in the area. The municipality of Cuevas del Alamzora is also home to Desert Springs Golf Resort, a desert style Arizona golf course, which enjoys world renown. Cuevas is also the capital of motorcycling hosting the world Supercross championships and there are many other sporting venues being built as Cuevas also hosted events in the 2006 Mediterranean games.
