This fantastic cave-cortijo was recently renovated, retaining some original features. The house has two patios, a terrace, carport, workshop, and corral, plus a few unreformed rooms. There is about 1 hectare of land with fruit trees. The property is located in a pastoral hamlet of the beautiful village of Galera on the Altiplano de Granada.

The property is large, with lots of character, and all rooms are of good size. The main house is a cave that passes through the mountain so all the rooms have windows and light. All floors have been nicely tiled. The house has a new roof. It is on mains electric and water, and has a septic tank. Internet is connected.

The main house: Entering the front door is a large hallway, leading on the left to a snug with a pellet burner and the original bread oven, leading through a large archway to a rustic fitted eat-in kitchen. Plumbing for a dishwasher is installed. A door from the kitchen leads to a large utility room and a small cloakroom with toilet and sink. A back door leads you out to the veranda with a summer kitchen and brick bbq, at the back of the cave. This spot offers wonderful views across the countryside and the mountains of the Sierra de Cazorla, Segura y las Villas.

From the front hall, another door leads to a large double bedroom, dressing area and large en-suite bathroom with separate bath, shower and double sinks. Through an archway to the right from the hall you enter a large room with an open fireplace, currently used as a dining room. From here, you enter a cosy lounge with a log burner, and then another large double bedroom with a window. Also from the lounge, an arch and hallway lead to a shower room and a large double bedroom with window and a good size en-suite.

Back from the dining room, a staircase leads up to a very large room (outbuild) which is currently an entertainment/lounge room with a bar. The original brick wall and lovely wood beams have been retained. You then enter a large unfinished room with a private entrance and a terrace. This could be another bedroom, an office or a spectacular studio apartment.

Surrounding the house are fig and olive trees. In the orchard are plum, cherry, pear, apple trees, pomegranate, and a fabulous old apricot tree. Grape vines grow against the fence. There are about 10 almond trees and a veggie plot. Irrigation is through a natural “acequia” (irrigation canal).

Outside the front gate of the property is plenty of space for parking. There are two above ground swimming pools including an 18ft pool. (The jacuzzi on the back patio is negotiable.) On the left side of the front patio is a carport and a workshop up the stairs.

On the right side of the main house are animal pens with a corral and 4/5 unreformed cave rooms. These can be used for storage, for keeping chickens, goats etc, or reformed into a separate living unit.

This lovely cortijo/cave would be ideal for a B&B, yoga retreats etc.

The location offers great opportunities for hiking and mountain biking. The village of Galera has restaurants, tapas bars, basic shops and a weekly market. The town of Huéscar is a 15 minute drive with more amenities and a 24 hr health centre. There are pristine turquoise lakes within 20-45 minutes, and two natural spring water swimming pools within a 10 minute drive.
